The Melbourne Assessment Prison located on Spencer Street, West Melbourne is a maximum security facility for the assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system.

The main reception of the Melbourne Assessment Prison was relocated to a temporary location for the various fast-track construction works and security system upgrades to be completed, including:

  • The construction of a new reception area, staff and management facilities, office areas, meeting rooms and general waiting areas. The fit out works also included the installation of new logging facilities, search rooms, drug and explosive detection rooms, and biometric and key safe equipment.
  • The construction of high-security professional visit and non-contact visit cubicles utilising concrete filled block work, structural steel, impact resistant linings, security glazing and specialised metalwork.
  • The upgrade of the CCTV system and security management system, including the installation of new biometric system.
