The Maidstone Children’s and Family Centre on Burns Street was developed to meet the increased demand for kindergartens and Maternal and Child Health services due to population growth and demographic changes in Maidstone and its surrounding areas.
The construction of the new Centre involved the demolition of the existing Dobson Kindergarten and Burns Street Maternal and Child Health Centre buildings, which were redeveloped into an integrated facility with a floor area of approximately 1230m².
The single-storey facility includes a preschool, maternal child health and allied health consulting services, a community meeting room, and associated amenities. The existing children’s playground was renovated and additional landscaping was provided to the entry and street interface, as well as to the park adjacent to the building.
An existing City West sewer line was diverted around the building by an approved City West Contractor. Works were completed whilst the Dobson Preschool continued to operate in the existing building and playground while the new facility was constructed.
