The Australian Unity Group is a national healthcare, financial services and retirement living organisation committed to creating neighbourhoods that enhance the wellbeing of older Australians.
The Design and Construct project at the existing Walmsley Retirement Community in Kilsyth involves a new 120-bed Residential Aged Care Facility and a new Community Centre; delivered in two separable portions to minimise the disruption to residents.
Separable Portion 1 – Community Centre
This separable portion involves the demolition of six Independent Living Units and the construction of the new Community Centre on the vacant land. The space will include a library, art and craft room, cinema, billiards room, kitchen, multipurpose room, lounge, bar and dining area, and surrounding landscaping.
Separable Portion 2 – Residential Aged Care Facility
This separable portion is the main works and involves the construction of a two-storey 120-bed Residential Aged Care Facility; configured into two ‘L’ shaped wings. Each wing will be separated by courtyards and outdoor amenities for residents and the facility will also include centralised social and activity spaces including a gym, hairdresser, allied health consulting room, large multipurpose areas and a café with external landscaped plaza for all residents. Works also include surrounding landscaping, car parking and service upgrades.
