Located in Seaford, Frankston Basketball and Gymnastics Stadium is set to become the leading indoor sports venue in Melbourne’s south-east. Once complete, it will be home to Frankston and District Basketball Association and Bayside Gymnastics Club, two long-standing community organisations that have outgrown their current facilities.

The stadium’s redevelopment is the largest infrastructure investment undertaken by Frankston City Council to date and is being delivered in partnership with the Australian and Victorian Governments. It will create greater opportunities for participation and development in two of the City’s fastest growing sports, with a particular focus on young girls, women, and people with a disability.

Designed to support future national and international competition, the two-storey facility will feature 10 indoor courts, including a show court with retractable seating for up to 1000 spectators, a media room, and broadcast-ready lighting. The court layout includes six new courts and the refurbishment of four existing courts, with two courts designed to accommodate multiple sports including futsal, volleyball, and badminton.

A dedicated gymnastics hall will include a purpose-built training pit, specialist change rooms, and a separate entry to support stand-alone use and competition events. Bayside Gymnastics Club will also benefit from a dedicated administration area and an upstairs viewing space for spectators.

Additional facilities include a café, kitchen, and function space, tournament office, multipurpose meeting rooms, and viewing areas overlooking the show court and gymnastics hall. The stadium also incorporates a suite of accessible amenities, including unisex change rooms, a first aid and drug testing room, and a quiet/multi-faith room.

The building is targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating and will be surrounded by new pathways connecting to Kananook Reserve and the nearby commuter car park. Landscaping works, car parking for over 100 vehicles, bike storage, and improved external lighting will enhance both accessibility and the user experience.

With a strong focus on inclusion, participation, and long-term sustainability, the new stadium will be a welcoming space for athletes, families, supporters, and visitors for generations to come.
